SHEQ Advisor

MWH Treatment is looking to strengthen our SHEQ team with a SHEQ Advisor based in the South West Water region. Interim maternity cover is required 2 days a week until June 2027 within the Thames Region (Guildford).

• Understand our approach to managing SHEQ risk and deliver best‑in‑class performance.
• Maintain a dynamic and driven approach to supporting SHEQ across the company.
• Monitor and review the closure/completion of corrective actions to ensure clear improvements and effective implementation.
• Organise audits and support the delivery and execution of SHEQ assurance visits.
• Conduct accident/incident investigations and/or support investigations conducted by the H&S Team.
• Integrate within wider project teams to understand day‑to‑day challenges.
• Work with clients to deliver collaborative approaches to SHEQ.
• Gain exposure to the project management lifecycle of project delivery.
• Highlight opportunities for sustainable solutions.
• Trend and analyse key performance data.
• Maintain externally certified management systems.

• Working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation, CDM Regulations, and HSE guidance.
• Experience with SHEQ management systems (OHSAS 45001/ISO standards) and audit processes.
• Data analysis, reporting, and trend identification.
• Ability to travel to all sites in the region.
• Knowledge of current and pending HSE Directives for health and safety.
• Knowledge of current statutory health and safety law in the UK.
• Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
• Knowledge of good practice in construction, e.g., HSE guidance and approved codes of practice.
• Knowledge of OHSAS 45001 (or similar management systems).
• Formal qualification in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH diploma or better).
• Membership of a recognised H&S institution to an appropriate level.
• Desirable:
  Experience in the water sector.
• Current full driving licence.
• Ability to collect, analyse, and evaluate large volumes of data while maintaining data integrity.
• Ability to identify trends in data and clearly articulate findings.
• Proven experience of working as part of a SHEQ team.
• Ability to interpret legislation and approved codes of practice.
• Good organisational and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work both as a team member and independently.
• Strong communication skills at all organisational levels.
• Confidence to make decisions with appropriate escalation.
• Good Microsoft Office skills (Visio, Excel, PowerPoint).
• CSCS card.
• Technical or certified membership of IOSH, or a construction‑related health & safety qualification such as NEBOSH Construction.
