Position: Cultural Engagement Officer - Part time (0.8 FTE) - Fixed term until May 2027

The pay range for this role will be £33,699– £39,152 (pro rata for part time colleagues). We’re looking forward to welcoming new colleagues under this refreshed framework of pay, terms, and conditions. Role Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Cultural Development team at BCP Council, on a part‑time fixed‑term basis until May 2027, delivering a range of projects which engage community and cultural groups and support cultural activity across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. Projects range from events and festivals to community focussed programmes, artist development schemes, public realm art and heritage‑based projects.

The post‑holder will have the opportunity to make a huge difference to the lives of people across the conurbation, positively impacting health and wellbeing by increasing opportunities for everyone to engage in cultural experiences.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensuring various public and community engagement activities are delivered for the Arts by the Sea Festival.
  • Leading on ensuring delivery of a range of public art interventions for the Levelling Up Coastal Public Art Programme.
In Addition, The Post‑holder Will
  • Engage with various creative community networks, organisations and individuals, supporting cultural projects across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
  • With support, be required to seek funding opportunities and apply for funding to support cultural activities and programmes.
  • Be required to control costs and maximise income to meet specific budget targets and ensure cost‑effective delivery of activities and projects.
  • Have the opportunity to contribute to wider cultural planning and strategy‑making.

The role involves attendance at events where there will be a requirement to walk, stand, lift and push/pull equipment to ensure smooth running of the event, also potentially being exposed to noise and adverse weather conditions. You will periodically be required to work at night, unsociable hours, weekends, and bank holidays.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have previous experience of planning, managing and leading or co‑ordinating cultural projects, and a good knowledge of the local cultural sector and of community arts organisations and networks. You will be able to manage collaborative and inclusive projects, be highly organised, have good attention to detail and have excellent communication skills.

You must be able to travel, using public or other forms of transport where they are viable, or by holding a valid UK driving licence with access to your own or using a pool car, as well as accessing activities where no transport means are available.
