Job Description

Under general supervision, performs moderately complex accounting clerical or bookkeeping tasks to support accounts payable/receivable, payroll, timekeeping, auditing and/or other accounting functions. Post journal entries, processes payments, and verifies accuracy of data.

Responsibilities
  • Operating the cashier window, greeting customers in person and by phone, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
  • Maintains a positive attitude with students, faculty, staff, and coworkers.
  • Communicates concerns to management and follows up on customer issues.
  • Performs cashiering activities such as completing check, cash, credit card transactions, issuing receipts, and balancing registers and receipts.
  • Ensures proper handling and safeguards in processing customer transactions. Examines currency and checks to detect counterfeiting, forgery or damaged money.
  • Prepares currency for bank deposits or transfers such as endorsing checks, tallying totals of cash, charges and checks received and preparing bank deposit slips.
  • Operates automated equipment such as cash registers, charge terminals, computer terminals and other manual and automated office equipment.
  • General advisement in all aspects of student financial services (e.g., installment payment plans, fee payment, fee payment deadlines, refunds, dishonored checks, third‑party billing, etc.).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Mandatory overtime is required on occasion during peak periods.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of accounting/cashiering experience required.
  • General knowledge of cashiering function.
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles and procedures used in financial record keeping.
  • Skilled in making accurate monetary transactions; performing mathematical computations (e.g., account reconciliation).
  • Ability to prepare written records and reports; operate keyboards and calculators; communicate effectively with customers and co‑workers; operate manual and automated office equipment; computer literacy required. People Soft ERP experience a PLUS but not required.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and multi‑task as necessary.
