The surgical technician will assist the surgeon during all operative and invasive procedures, ensuring proper preparation of the operating room, monitoring par levels of equipment, and maintaining instrument sterility.

• Prepare the operating room in a timely manner with all instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment necessary for each procedure.
• Assist in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for the surgical procedure.
• Carry out aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure and maintain a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self.
• Accurately complete surgical counts (sponge, instrument, needle, etc.) and report all discrepancies to the Director of Nursing.
• Check all equipment pre‑operatively to ensure functionality and maintain an orderly and sterile back table for efficiency.
• Anticipate needs of the physician and patient during the intraoperative phase.
• Clean and prepare the room between procedures and after the last case of the day, including damp dusting prior to the start of any procedures.
• Restock supplies and equipment and maintain accurate tray sheets and inventory sheets.
• Maintain knowledge of operating all applicable equipment, performing required quality control through routine testing, cleaning, and monitoring to assure proper function.
• Assist in storing all sterilized items, transporting instrumentation to and from sterile storage area, and ensuring proper preventive maintenance is performed at required intervals.
• Interact with maintenance personnel when necessary to reduce downtime and impact on patient care.
• Verbalize, understand, and utilize appropriate PPE and surgical attire based on work location.
• Accept linen deliveries and assist in stocking when requested.
• Acquire, maintain, and utilize all manufacturer instructions for use as they pertain to each instrument or item.
• Follow all policies and procedures of the center, performing all aspects of reprocessing in a timely and efficient manner while adhering to all policies.
• Maintain knowledge of privacy practices, patient bill of rights, infection control, OSHA standards of practice, and center policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including inventory/expiration validation/stocking.
