Position: Emergency Veterinarian - Ethos ER Immerse Mentorship Program - Bowie, MD

Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty (DCES) is seeking veterinarians passionate about working in emergency medicine for our 6-month training and mentorship program. We are looking for individuals who are team oriented, driven, compassionate, and reliable to train with us and transition into an ER position at our hospital.

The Ethos ER Immerse Training Program

The ER Immerse Program will prepare veterinarians for a sustainable and satisfying career in emergency medicine. Built from the ground up to be different than traditional rotating internship programs, the ERi program has been developed around a curriculum of core competencies essential for an emergency veterinarian. In addition to providing training around clinical knowledge and skills, the program also includes a focus on client and team member communication, professional skills, and life/work integration.

The ER Immerse program utilizes a hybrid training approach incorporating web-based and in‑person didactic components into authentic training experiences with live patients. The curriculum is designed using an evidence‑based strategy identifying competencies and skills deemed essential for a successful career as an emergency clinician.

Program Duration / Commitment
  • 6‑month training program beginning June/July 2026
  • 1‑year commitment as an ER clinician at DCES following training

  • Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty – 6700 Laurel‑Bowie Rd (Rt.197), Bowie, MD 20715
Program Highlights
  • Varied schedule with 3‑ to 4‑day work weeks, rotating through day, swing, and overnight. Rotate with other specialty services (IM, Neurology, Medical Oncology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, and Surgery) during the training program with on‑call during some specialty rotations.
  • Additional surgical mentorship can be discussed after the ER Immerse program is completed.
  • Always work with a dedicated mentor on shifts for the first three months; transition to overlapping independent shift assignments with 24/7 support based on mentee skill progression and evaluations. Competency‑based curriculum that includes asynchronous learning on Vetbloom and weekly live virtual didactic rounds. Regular live continuing education events led by specialists and experienced emergency doctors.
  • Salary of $135,000 during mentorship period, with the greater of $135,000 or 21% production following mentorship (earning potential range from $135,000 to $225,000 annually following training period).
