Overview

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) has an immediate opening for a Part‑time/On‑call 3rd Shift Senior Security Guard. Shift requirement is Tuesday‑Saturday 10 pm‑6 am. Under close supervision, performs security functions assigned by the Guard Captain. Regulates and controls personnel movement into the building, patrols the building grounds, investigates unusual events and submits reports. Due to the nature of the work and the need for occasional extended coverage, this position requires flexibility for overtime or outside of the regularly scheduled shift, as authorized by the Security Manager or ACSSO.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain knowledge of and familiarity with the Standard Practice and Procedures for SCI Manual and the CCS Security Force Manual of Policies and Procedures.
  • Regulate personnel entry into building and adjacent areas; deal with visitors and staff professionally and with courtesy.
  • Check personnel identification badges; ensure visitors are authorized for entry and confirm identification.
  • Maintain log of visitors and operate the special personnel accountability system.
  • Understand special instructions/orders at various posts within and outside of the facility.
  • Remain at post until relieved or redirected by supervisor.
  • Patrol assigned area, being alert to violations of security regulations, unauthorized persons and safety hazards.
  • Verify safety features such as locks, alarms and lights are functioning and operational.
  • Respond to alarms, meeting time and physical requirements; take prompt action to correct violations and create complete, accurate and factual incident reports.
  • Deal with individuals involved in unusual/suspicious situations firmly but courteously, and work toward resolution of problems involving management when necessary.
  • Understand use of video monitors, carefully watching for unusual activity on the grounds or vicinity.
  • Know the process of activation/deactivation of the alarm systems (SMTs) and monitor the UL alarm control station.
  • Implement emergency procedures as situations dictate or as directed.
  • Secure classified packages after office hours.
  • Secure alarm access and classified combinations to secure areas.
  • Perform escort duty upon direction from supervisor; stay alert to actions and activities of person(s) under escort.
  • Report unusual behavior.
  • Know building, office and grounds layout for the most direct route to destination.
  • Conduct shredding of classified and sensitive information as required.
  • Keep informed and current with regulations and new procedures concerning Security Force operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Active TS/SCI with CI polygraph clearance is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and two or more years of directly related security guard experience.
  • Must be able to use a computer.
  • Fully capable of monitoring the facility and conducting security rounds, including responding on short notice to alarms or emergency situations.
  • Lift packages or materials weighing 10 pounds.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and have corrected vision of 20/20 with no hearing impairments; work outdoors in all types of weather.
Compensation

We support transparency, equity, and fairness in our compensation program and provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range based on data‑driven market analysis for each position. While it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $42,291‑67,666. Individual salary within this range will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, unique skills and qualifications, and other relevant factors.
