Job Summary

Embedded tutors support student learning and success directly within the classroom and beyond. They help students engage with course content, develop academic confidence, and build study skills, acting as a bridge between in-class learning and out-of-class support.

Job Duties

Embedded tutors work alongside the instructor to provide timely, student-centered support. They engage with students during class, assist with activities, and encourage the use of tutoring services outside of class. They aim to build rapport, offer encouragement, and foster a supportive learning environment that strengthens students’ understanding and motivation.

This position reports to the Tutor Coordinator and works in partnership with a course instructor. Embedded tutors attend class sessions regularly and meet with students one-on-one or in small groups through Learning Commons tutoring services (in-person or virtual). Additional responsibilities include attending trainings, logging tutoring appointments in Starfish, and participating in program feedback and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Grade of an A or B in MAT 150 – College Algebra & MAT 155 – Trigonometry
  • Successful completion of 12+ college credits at an accredited college.
  • Two professional references, at least one of whom is a faculty member who teaches math or science at an accredited college.
  • Overall college GPA 3.0 or above.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working towards an associate's or bachelor’s Degree
  • Successful completion of 12+ credits of SKYCTC college courses.
  • Two professional references, at least one of whom is a faculty member who teaches math or science at SKYCTC.
  • Grade of A or B in additional math courses, such as MAT 175 – Calculus I or STA 220 – Statistics
