LER Tech Force is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer – Diagnostics to work onsite at our client in Bowling Green, KY (this is a direct hire position).

What you will be doing:

  • Lead diagnostic systems architecture and Interface Control Documents for ECUs and embedded modules.
  • Define requirements for DTC strategy, service implementation, OBD-II/J1979 behaviors, and failure mode logic.
  • Host technical discussions and design reviews; drive FMEAs and ensure requirements-to-test traceability.
  • Plan and execute complex diagnostic deliverables from concept through validation and release.
  • Calibrate diagnostic thresholds and ensure successful feature integration.
  • Collaborate with embedded software, validation, and hardware teams.
  • Build and maintain diagnostic test plans, scripts, and acceptance criteria.
  • Mentor systems engineers and manage change control.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of field, service, manufacturing, and design issues.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years in embedded control systems with proven experience in diagnostics and systems engineering.
  • Proficiency with CAN, UDS, J1979/J1939, and diagnostic data design.
  • Strong systems experience including requirements, ICDs, FMEAs, traceability, and test coverage.
  • Effective cross-functional leadership and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in engineering or related field.
  • Hands‑on experience with engine tuning, calibration tools, or dyno/vehicle testing.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols.
  • Experience with diagnostic architecture and system modeling.
  • Knowledge of OBD compliance (EPA/CARB), ISO, UL, and other regulatory standards.
  • Understanding of Internal Combustion Engine fundamentals and Engine Management Systems.
