The Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or the Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), assists the surgeon in exposure, hemostasis, and many other technical functions during the surgical procedure. Initiates appropriate intra‑operative behaviors unique to first assisting. Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative techniques relative to operative procedures. Maintains a sterile field.

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• National certification (CSA) Certified Surgical Assistant, or (CSFA) Certified Surgical First Assistant
• 2 years OR experience highly preferred
