Distribution Manager – Bowling Green Distribution Center

Summary Statement (Objective of the Position)

The Distribution Manager is responsible for leading all inbound and outbound distribution operations at the Bowling Green facility, overseeing a team of 85+ associates across receiving, put‑away, inventory control, order fulfillment, packing, staging, and shipping. Reporting directly to the DC Manager, this role ensures safe, accurate, timely, and cost-effective product flow throughout the distribution center.

The Distribution Manager drives operational excellence by developing teams, optimizing processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring strong collaboration across departments to support overall DC strategy.

Key Job Elements (Essential Functions) Inbound & Outbound Operations Leadership
  • Oversee all inbound and outbound activities, including receiving, returns, put‑away, inventory staging, order fulfillment, packing, and shipping.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy, compliance, and high‑quality execution across all distribution processes.
  • Manage inbound and outbound inventory control processes to improve workflow efficiency and minimize discrepancies.
  • Ensure on‑time receiving and on‑time, accurate shipping to support customer expectations and business goals.
Performance Management & Metrics
  • Monitor and report on KPIs such as dock‑to‑stock time, receiving accuracy, on‑time shipments, order accuracy, cost per unit handled, cost per shipment, safety performance, and productivity.
  • Identify and implement operational efficiencies, cost‑reduction strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives based on data analysis.
  • Review weekly operational reports for inbound and outbound departments and resolve performance gaps promptly.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate supervisors and associates across inbound, outbound, and inventory teams.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, training, and coaching to reinforce accountability, development, and engagement.
  • Manage staffing, labor planning, scheduling, and overtime to meet business demands and seasonal fluctuations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure all operations meet internal quality standards and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee safe use, training, and maintenance of warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors, and scanning devices.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Lead initiatives that improve accuracy, reduce damage, and enhance product handling standards.
  • Partner closely with purchasing, inventory control, outbound/inbound peers, and DC leadership to ensure end‑to‑end workflow efficiency.
  • Support new product introductions, process changes, and system enhancements.
  • Communicate operational updates, performance metrics, challenges, and improvement initiatives to the DC Manager.
  • Work cross‑functionally to resolve inventory discrepancies, supplier issues, and workflow bottlenecks.
Basic Qualifications (Education & Experience Required)
  • 5+ years of proven leadership experience managing inbound, outbound, or full distribution center operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret data and take action.
  • Experience with warehouse inventory and workflow management systems (Syte Line experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated success driving safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with experience managing supervisors and large frontline teams.
