Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring strong vascular and cardiac surgical background and travel nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) within a hospital setting

• Mixed acuity unit with a primary vascular surgery patient population

• Typical procedures include AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, fem-pop bypass, thrombectomy, pneumonectomy, eVAR, intra-aortic balloon pump, and TAVR

• Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:2-3 for unit patients to 1:4-5 for stepdown acuity

• Floating within scope to stepdown units as needed

• Night shifts, 3x12 hours, 19:00–07:00

• Every other weekend required

• Unit utilizes Meditech EMR;
Meditech experience preferred but not required

• Primary responsibilities include caring for patients recovering from major vascular and thoracic surgeries in a mixed acuity critical care environment

• Must comply with facility’s mandatory flu vaccination policy with no exemptions allowed

• First-time travelers are not accepted; prior travel experience is required

• Orientation sessions are held every Monday

• Holiday and block scheduling are open for discussion but not guaranteed

• A strong surgical and cardiac clinical background is necessary

• Candidates will undergo an on-site drug screen on the first day of assignment

Requirements

• Active KY or compact RN license in hand

• Minimum 2 years RN experience required, with at least 1 year of travel nursing experience

• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) current within 2 years of start date

• Experience with vascular and cardiac surgery patient populations required

• Familiarity with stroke guidelines and acute stroke care performance measures

• Completion of stroke signs/symptoms and bedside dysphagia screening competency required

• Must reside within 30 minutes of the facility during assignment

• Cannot accept pending licenses

• Candidates must live more than 65 miles from the facility
