Job Summary
The Product Development Scientist/Engineer is responsible for ensuring that scientific instrumentation being developed by R&D performs reliably throughout its intended scientific and product lifecycle applications.
This is a product-development role rather than a sales applications role. The Development Applications Scientist/Engineer connects engineering performance with real-world product performance across scientific use, manufacturing, quality control, service, and other lifecycle activities.
The role evaluates whether the complete product performs as intended, not simply whether individual requirements have been met. It develops and executes application-level studies, interprets instrument and measurement-system behavior in context, and works with engineering teams to identify the source and significance of performance limitations, variation, and unexpected results.
The Product Development Scientist/Engineer provides experimental evidence and application understanding needed to support product requirements, performance claims, release decisions, and continued improvement.
Roles and Responsibilities
:
- Translate product uses and lifecycle activities into measurable requirements, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
- Design and execute application validation across scientific use, manufacturing, service, and quality control.
- Generate instrument- and sensor-level data needed to characterize performance, variation, repeatability, and reproducibility.
- Work with metrology expertise to define study methods and interpret measurement-system behavior in real use.
- Apply appropriate statistical analysis to support specifications, validation conclusions, and external performance claims.
- Investigate application limitations, failure modes, and unexpected results, and translate findings into product and process improvements.
- Staying up to date on programming best practices, tools and processes
- May be required to travel to other Anton Paar facilities domestically or internationally (< 5%)
- All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics or another discipline involving quantitative experimental science.
- Strong practical experience designing and conducting scientific experiments.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, understand variation, and draw defensible technical conclusions.
- Experience using and troubleshooting sophisticated scientific, laboratory, process, or analytical instrumentation.
- Practical experience applying statistical methods to experimental data and measurement-system performance.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate how manufacturing, quality control, service, environment, and workflow affect product performance.
- Demonstrated ability to define requirements, test methods, acceptance criteria, and process controls from observed product behavior and lifecycle needs.
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, service, and other product-development functions.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to turn technical evidence into clear instructions, limits, and conclusions.
