We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and engaging Cognitive Care Companion to help the family support a vibrant and active woman living with advanced Alzheimer’s. This is a dynamic, relationship-centered role that goes beyond basic caregiving—it's about creating meaningful moments, fostering trust, and enhancing quality of life through personalized attention and thoughtful planning.
Mandatory to apply: Candidates with advanced training, and/or LPN or RN license or other significant professional education and experience focused on daily cognitive support for dementia clients. This person will be an extension of the family, providing daytime support for the client (between 4-6 days per week, 12 hour days). Complete references and background checks will be required. Carefully read the Qualifications section on the bottom as only candidates who meet all these qualifications will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily companionship and cognitive stimulation through books, activities, and conversation
- Maintain a calendar of personal appointments such as dentist, doctor, hair dresser, etc. Able to converse with medical professionals on client/family's behalf.
- Drive the client daily, for several hours, in your vehicle to local activities (lunches, movies, shopping, performing arts, etc.). You are responsible for building this calendar of engaging activities
- Remain calm and confident during emotional or behavioral episodes, using proven techniques to de-escalate and comfort
- Maintain a tidy and organized living space, including light cleaning and room upkeep
- Accompany the client on family vacations, including overnight stays in a separate room with the client to ensure safety and comfort
- Able to research, independently, all sorts of things to support the client/family in our dementia care journey
- Minimum 7+ years experience with Alzheimer’s or dementia care clients
- Training in behavioral management and de-escalation techniques
- 4 year college degree in a related health field
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must hold a valid passport
- Willingness to travel outside of Florida and stay overnight multiple times per year
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with reluctant individuals
- Must be a self starter, able to organize and manage things without constant direction
- Highly organized, proactive, and emotionally resilient
- English fluency: reading and writing professional documents
- High level of competency with technology (smart phones, ipads, navigating through streaming Apps (such as Disney+, Netflix, etc.)
