About the Role:

The Prep Cook plays a vital role in the kitchen by ensuring that all ingredients and food items are prepared efficiently and to the highest quality standards before cooking. This position supports the culinary team by performing essential food preparation tasks such as chopping, slicing, measuring, and organizing ingredients. The Prep Cook helps maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.

By preparing ingredients in advance, the Prep Cook enables the kitchen to operate smoothly during service hours, contributing to timely and consistent meal delivery. Ultimately, this role is crucial in supporting the overall dining experience by ensuring that the kitchen is well-prepared and organized.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a kitchen or food preparation environment is preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Formal culinary training or certification.
• Experience working in a professional kitchen or food service setting.
• Familiarity with kitchen equipment and tools.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and portion ingredients according to recipes and kitchen standards.
• Wash, peel, chop, and slice vegetables, fruits, and other food items as required.
• Measure and assemble ingredients for sauces, dressings, and other menu items.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep area, including proper storage of food items.
• Assist with inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
• Support the culinary team by assisting with basic cooking tasks as needed.
• Dispose of waste properly and maintain kitchen equipment in good working order.

Skills:

The Prep Cook utilizes knife skills daily to prepare ingredients accurately and safely, ensuring consistency in food quality. Time management and organizational skills are essential to prioritize tasks and maintain a smooth workflow during busy periods. Knowledge of food safety practices is applied continuously to prevent contamination and maintain a hygienic kitchen environment. Communication skills are important for coordinating with chefs and other kitchen staff to meet preparation needs effectively.

Additionally, physical stamina and manual dexterity are required to handle repetitive tasks and operate kitchen equipment efficiently throughout the shift.
