We plan, design, permit, mitigate, and restore for projects across our communities, infrastructure systems, open spaces, and wildlands. We are 50 years strong in 21 offices across California, the Pacific Northwest, and the southeastern United States.

Who You Are
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a natural science field (e.g., biology, ecology, environmental science) and have a minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in botany, arboriculture, ecology, wetlands, wildlife, Florida‑specific permitting, habitat restoration, conservation/resource‑management planning, or similar natural‑resource disciplines.
  • Experienced biologist who performs natural resource‑related evaluations and technical studies, including lead fieldwork for habitat surveys, protected species surveys, wetland delineations, and ecological monitoring within Florida.
  • Previous project‑management experience is required, including scoping, budgeting, scope tracking, and schedule management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of standard ecological assessment methods and the ability to solve complex, multidisciplinary technical challenges.
  • Excellent oral presentation skills, with a background in business development, proposal writing, and contract acquisition. Ability to prepare scopes of work, budgets, and technical input for proposals.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations and policies relevant to project locations.
  • Collaborative client and interdisciplinary team worker who delivers projects on time and within budget, tracking scope, schedules, and budgets.
  • Primary author on environmental documents such as biological assessments, evaluations, reports, and NEPA documents.
  • Strong written communication: produce clear, concise, well‑written documents and present information persuasively to clients, agencies, partners, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Effective team member who mentors and manages multidisciplinary teams, guiding junior staff through tasks of varying complexity.
  • Comfortable working in and around water, with experience using all‑terrain vehicles, boats, or other field tools.
  • Preferred certifications:
    Certified Boat Operator, Primary Bird Observer, Bat Acoustic Analyst, Gopher Tortoise Agent, Certified Arborist, Professional Wetland Scientist, or proficiency in state/federal wetland delineations.
  • Proficiency in Field Maps, Collector, Survey
    123, GIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong physical capacity: carry a backpack over long distances, lift at least 50 pounds, work in all weather conditions, including uneven ground and potential night or weekend work.
What You Will Do for ESA
  • Serve as Project Manager: oversee project delivery, coordinate schedules, manage logistics, maintain project information, answer client and team questions, and deliver deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Lead biological field studies: habitat and species surveys, wetland and stream delineations, compliance monitoring, and habitat restoration, ensuring data quality, analysis, and support for permits and design documents.
  • Provide regulatory expertise, ensuring compliance with environmental policies and standards.
  • Act as primary author or subject‑matter reviewer for technical documents, including NEPA analyses, permit applications, and management plans, producing clear, concise, well‑written reports.
  • Collaborate within interdisciplinary teams, leveraging strong presentation and communication skills to convey complex information.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and invoicing, ensuring accuracy and alignment with client expectations.
  • Work under diverse conditions, including freshwater, saltwater marshes, forested systems, uplands, and water work.
  • Balance multiple responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment, working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Support marketing and business‑development efforts to build and maintain an opportunity pipeline.
  • Perform other ad‑hoc tasks as needed.
