Position Overview
School and Youth Program Manager (SYPM) manages a variety of programs, including K‑12 field trips, summer camps, and other educational activities for museum visitors of all ages.
Responsibilities- Manage K‑12 field trips by booking experiences, communicating with teachers, and coordinating visit logistics.
- Develop new curricula that are standards‑aligned, creative, object‑ and phenomenon‑based, and promote critical thinking.
- Create and collect evaluations and data on educational programs to improve quality and keep records.
- Oversee the summer camp program.
- Hire, train, support, and supervise temporary and student staff to assist in teaching camp and K‑12 programs.
- Establish new relationships with teachers, other museum education departments, and cultivate community partnerships.
- Work with Volunteer Manager to staff volunteers on K‑12 programs.
- Lead educational programs as necessary.
- Plan and execute educational events with the rest of the team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience in an informal education setting, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
- Demonstrated experience creating innovative, standard‑based curriculum and programming for diverse learning styles in an informal educational setting.
- Experience partnering and co‑teaching with volunteers, students, and other professionals on educational programming.
- Experience working in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, museum education, or a related field.
- Experience in summer camp management.
- Experience planning, implementing, and leading others in teaching museum‑specific programs.
- Experience supervising staff, particularly informal educators.
- Success in creating innovative educational curriculum or programming in a museum in both natural and social sciences.
- Interest, ability, and experience collecting and analyzing data.
- Continuity of employment contingent upon availability of funding.
- Ability to work some weekends and evenings as needed, planned in advance.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. (If possessing a valid out‑of‑state driver’s license, must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days of hire.)
- Organized, effective, and able to plan ahead and multitask.
- Independent worker who works well on a team in a collaborative manner.
- Passionate about STEAM and history education.
- Knowledgeable of working and teaching in museums, and of informal education.
- Effective and supportive manager who communicates honestly and clearly.
