Overview

The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering (NACOE) at Montana State University invites applications for the position of Dean of the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering. The college offers a broad range of accredited undergraduate and graduate programs, supports research and innovation, and serves the land‑grant mission of MSU.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide effective management, administration, and leadership for the college.
  • Collaborate with faculty, students, staff, and senior university leadership to address opportunities and challenges facing the college.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, including student‑faculty engagement, curriculum streamlining, and research enterprise enhancement.
  • Advocate for interdisciplinary collaborations within the college, the university, and the broader community.
  • Ensure positive accreditation outcomes for all programs and overall university accreditation.
  • Improve student retention and grow enrollment, with an emphasis on graduate student enrollment.
  • Represent NACOE and MSU as an enthusiastic spokesperson for internal and external constituencies.
  • Secure external funds to support college initiatives, working with the Provost, President, foundation, and external stakeholders.
  • Nurture and support faculty in teaching, research, and scholarship, encouraging external funding and professional development.
  • Contribute to the University’s mission through academic governance and participation in university committees.
  • Build a bright future for NACOE through ethical, creative, and engaging leadership.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
  • Exemplary record of research, scholarship, teaching, and service to the university and broader communities.
  • Qualified for tenure at the rank of full professor within NACOE.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Broad-based record of administrative and scholarly experience in research‑university settings with direct supervisory experience for academic units.
  • Significant budget management experience.
  • Strong communication skills: writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Experience with faculty development, performance assessments, and promotion/tenure evaluation.
  • Commitment to the land‑grant mission and shared governance.
  • Demonstrated fiscal management, transformational change, and innovative partnerships.
  • Proficiency in fundraising, grants, and contract development.
  • Strong collaborative leadership and stakeholder engagement.
