JOB TITLE:
Mechanical Engineer PE - California

Job Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer will help provide comprehensive HVAC engineering services geared to cover all facets of the construction process, beginning with design initiation, through the commissioning of systems. This position will report to a Senior Project Manager in the Mechanical Engineering Department and office Principal and serve as a key member of the Engineering team. Duties And Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will possess strong abilities to work collaboratively with all members of the design team, mentor designers and teach mechanical staff for their progression, accept responsibility of all designs under their direct supervision, and effectively communicate with customers, contractors, and staff. They will manage mechanical staff under their direct supervision, their individual time on projects, and expectations of the project PMs.

They should be a self-starter, motivated, and able to work independently, but at the same time work collaboratively with others to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and respond to changing demands.

Specific

Job Duties

  • Working with a Project Manager, develop and prepare detailed mechanical engineering and construction installation documents and provide engineering support during the construction phase of a wide range of project types including residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and healthcare.
  • Design and draft mechanical and plumbing systems to include but not limited to, forced air and hydronic systems, sanitary drainage, domestic water, and fuel gas piping systems.
  • Perform mechanical system design analysis including, but not limited to heating/cooling load calculations, energy modeling, comparative system life-cycle cost modeling, and energy code compliance verification.
  • Produce complete, code compliant project contract documents including drawings and specifications to be used for permitting, bidding, and construction.
  • Complete construction administration including tasks such as field inspections and reports, submittal reviews, RFI responses, project closeouts, as-built documentation, and issuing design change directives.
  • Work closely with owners, architects, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Train coworkers and be able to review the work of those that you are in responsible charge of.
  • Write/edit project specifications (CSI divisions 22 and 23).
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to gather specific information required to provide complete designs on schedule.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a PE license in good standing for at least 5 years.
  • Possess a PE license in California
  • Professional experience in mechanical and plumbing design.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD or Revit (preferred) and Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in referencing and understanding applicable building codes and related industry standards (International Building Codes, IAPMO codes and standards, ASHRAE standards, etc.).


Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: communicate with others both physically present and on the telephone; sit and stand; move, use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is rarely required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects over 10 pounds.
  • The ability to perform site visits is preferred.
Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to typically work in an office setting. This position may require travel to multiple E1 sites as the need arises.
  • This position is located in California with a preference for the Bay Area or LA County/Southern CA.
