Professional Land Surveyor / Project Manager - Montana

I’m currently supporting a growing infrastructure and environmental consulting firm with the hire of a Professional Land Surveyor / Project Manager in Montana.

The position can be based from Butte, Helena or Bozeman and offers a mix of office and field work across engineering, infrastructure, environmental and construction projects throughout the region.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced surveyor who enjoys being technically involved while also leading projects, mentoring staff and taking ownership of project delivery.

Responsibilities include:
  • Managing land surveying projects from initiation through completion
  • Conducting boundary, topographic and construction staking surveys
  • Leading both field and office survey teams
  • Providing technical guidance, QA/QC and mentorship
  • Using GPS, total stations, levels and modern surveying technology
  • Preparing and maintaining field notes, sketches, survey reports, maps and plans
  • Analyzing survey data to determine boundaries, elevations, contours and land features
  • Reviewing legal records, survey records and land titles
  • Preparing legal descriptions and survey documentation
  • Coordinating with engineers, contractors and project teams
  • Managing project schedules, budgets and deliverables
  • Communicating directly with clients and resolving survey-related issues
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable surveying, regulatory and safety standards
What we’re looking for:
  • Montana PLS license
    , or the ability to obtain Montana licensure within an acceptable timeframe
  • 5+ years of experience managing survey projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles and practices
  • Experience with GPS, robotic total stations and data collectors
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center or similar survey software
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead and mentor field crews and office staff
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in varied terrain and weather conditions and traveling 50-75% throughout the region.

This role would particularly suit someone with experience across boundary surveying, infrastructure, public lands, utilities, engineering or construction projects who wants a combination of technical fieldwork and leadership responsibility.
