About the roleWelder/Fabricator plays a critical role in building and assembling Acela’s high-performance, heavy-duty trucks. This position is responsible for welding, fabricating, and assembling components to precise specifications, ensuring high quality, safety, and durability standards are met. The ideal candidate has hands-on welding experience, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic, contributing directly to the success of our manufacturing operations.
Duties Include- Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on a variety of metals, including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Fabricate, cut, bend, and assemble metal components using power tools, presses, and fabrication equipment.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical instructions.
- Fit, tack, and weld assemblies while ensuring structural integrity and dimensional accuracy.
- Inspect welds and fabricated parts to meet company and industry quality standards.
- Assist in truck assembly, including installation of fabricated parts, brackets, and structural components.
- Maintain a safe and organized work area in compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations.
- Collaborate with production team members to meet project deadlines and quality targets.
- Support continuous improvement by recommending and implementing process enhancements.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade school training preferred.
- 2+ years of welding and fabrication experience (manufacturing or automotive industry preferred).
- Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding; ability to pass a weld test.
- Strong understanding of welding symbols, fabrication techniques, and measuring tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience operating fabrication equipment such as press brakes, shears, plasma cutters, and grinders.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience:
Work involves the repair, adjustment and maintenance of self-propelled transportation and other mobile equipment (except aircraft).
Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and can use common tools and equipment in the line of work.
Basic knowledge and use of mechanics and other hand, battery / air operated tools and equipment.
Physical Demands:- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Standing, bending, and working in varied positions throughout the shift.
- Tolerance for heat, sparks, noise, and other environmental conditions typical of a fabrication shop.
