This is a union position within the Gallatin Rest Home Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses Bargaining Unit.
The position is located at the Gallatin Rest Home and reports to the Director of Nursing. It involves performing a variety of paraprofessional nursing services for residents in a residential, clinical, or institutional setting. The role includes providing shift supervision to Certified Nurse Aides, conducting performance appraisals, reporting personnel issues, and offering guidance and training.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform para-professional nursing services to meet residents' needs in compliance with the nurse practices act.
- Respond to residents' personal requests and report unusual or special requests.
- Interpret policies for staff, residents, and relatives.
- Order and administer medications as directed by a physician.
- Observe and report on residents' conditions.
- Provide basic care and assist with personal hygiene.
- Take and record vital signs, reporting unusual symptoms.
- Administer enemas, irrigations, and perform other nursing procedures.
- Assist in feeding residents and record intake.
- Maintain medical charts and logs.
- Under supervision, administer injections.
- Sterilize equipment and supplies.
- Assist in evaluating residents' needs and implementing treatment plans.
- Ensure safety and proper functioning of residents' rooms and equipment.
- Coordinate services with other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in training and report sessions.
- Assist in training other para-professional nurses.
- Perform subordinate work during emergencies.
Other Duties as Assigned
Perform additional duties such as coordinating projects, attending meetings, and continuing education. In emergencies, provide services as required.
This role requires knowledge of practical nursing principles, medical terminology, medication effects, and emergency response. Effective communication, record-keeping, and use of medical equipment are essential. The position typically requires completion of an approved practical nursing course and licensure in Montana. Prior geriatric experience is preferred.
