Alpengirl - Seasonal Guide Positions Available

* * All seasonal staff are responsible for travel to Bozeman for staff training. After receiving assignments, Alpengirl will cover transportation to guides' regions for trips

Role Overview

The Alpenguide is central to the Alpengirl experience, requiring a balance of hard and soft skills to lead and care for participants with varying levels of outdoor experience, from beginners to seasoned campers. Working in teams of 2‑3, Alpenguides oversee groups of 10‑12 participants on 6‑14 day trips, supported by the Alpengirl Leadership Team.

Responsibilities
  • Leading multi‑day adventure activities, while supervising youth and supporting adults
  • Managing risks, providing wilderness medical care, and teaching outdoor skills and Leave No Trace ethics
  • Planning and preparing meals, driving 15‑passenger vans, and handling group dynamics
  • Communicating with partners, parents, and Alpengirl Leadership
Available Positions
  • General Alpenguide
    :
    Leads trips as assigned during staff training in June, performing all standard Alpenguide duties.
  • Horse packing Alpenguide
    :
    Leads Yellowstone Horse adventures in addition to general duties. Horse experience is preferred, but enthusiasm for horse packing is essential.
  • Flex Alpenguide
    :
    Serves in a versatile support role, assisting with trips, office tasks, and emergencies.

    Responsibilities include:
  • Acting as an extra guide (“Third Alpenguide”) to support field staff.
  • Supporting leadership with administrative tasks, social media, gear maintenance, and participant logistics.
  • Stepping in as a trip leader if needed due to illness, injury, or staff changes.

Flex Alpenguides must adapt to shifting schedules and work hours, remaining available throughout the season. While workdays and time off may change, they are guaranteed the same number of days off as other Alpenguides.

Qualifications
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Completed at least 1 year of college (college graduates preferred)
  • Wilderness First Aid (WFA) with Epinephrine Auto‑injector certification (Wilderness First Responder (WFR) preferred)
  • CPR/AED certification
  • Valid driver licence with clean driving record and clean criminal background record
  • Previous experience leading backpacking trips
  • Previous experience with youth outdoor education and leadership
  • Ability to perform positively and maintain self‑care with limited personal time or time off
  • Fun lovin’ attitude and superhuman power of some kind!
Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Lifeguard certification
  • Leave No Trace certification
  • Backcountry Food Handlers certification
  • Previous experience driving 15‑passenger vans and trailers
  • Yoga instructor certification and/or yoga experience
  • Two or more seasons experience working with adults and/or teenagers in a camp/outdoor education setting
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with geographic area of trips
  • Experience teaching science and/or natural history
Physical Requirements
  • Hike up to 10 miles at elevations up to 11,000 feet, carrying a heavy backpack
  • Traverse uneven terrain that could include gravel, dirt, mud, snow and ice
  • Hike quickly for up to 10 miles in emergency situations
  • Live and work in a setting with variable weather conditions
  • Move and/or lift up to 60 pounds; load and unload equipment/packs from vehicles
  • Reach, climb, grasp, push and pull above and below shoulder levels; squat and bend
