A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Barista, you are an integral member of the café team. You welcome customers cheerfully, answer questions, and connect readers with the right beverages and café items. You also help maintain the attractive presentation of the café, unpack and stock deliveries, tidy the bake case and dining area, and operate the registers in a quick and friendly manner.

• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
• Fill scheduling gaps when you are able, being flexible and responsive to store needs.
• Approach work positively, performing assigned tasks with purpose, energy, and reliability.
• Support and show consideration for colleagues, helping others and displaying kindness.

• Use varied technology including registers, computers, tablets, programs, and other tools comfortably and efficiently.
• Develop strong merchandising skills to maintain café presentation and cleanliness.
• Run a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
• Support receiving, unpacking, and accurate stocking of deliveries.
• Make food and drinks properly with ease and accuracy, using recipes, guides, and product spec sheets.
• Maintain café cleanliness through daily and weekly cleaning tasks.
• Follow FIFO practices and date products consistently and correctly.
• Support the bookfloor team willingly and effectively when needed.
• Understand loss prevention procedures, de‑escalation techniques, and identify problematic behaviors.

All this work requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and a lot of walking. You may work in other stores if needed to support the wider cluster.

• Build café knowledge of beverages, bakery, savory options, and gifting.
• Use this knowledge to maintain attractive presentation and drive sales objectives.
• Make effective food and beverage customization recommendations.
• Support execution of café retail options.
• Use Café training tools appropriately.
• Apply café safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines reliably.

As you demonstrate mastery of the skills outlined, you will be expected to advance to Senior Barista, where you will take on new challenges and broader opportunities for growth.
