Duties and Responsibilities- Major mechanical work includes adjust, repair, and replace engines, motors, drivetrain, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, fuel systems, brake systems, heating and cooling systems, body control systems, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Minor maintenance and service duties and repairs such as adjust, lubricate, change fluids and filters, replace engine and body accessories, and repair and replace tires.
- Requisition parts through Campus Stores and vendors.
- Estimate time and cost of services.
- Accurately completing service records.
- Assist another Mechanic(s) as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of mechanic trade.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, maintain, and repair a variety of automotive (gasoline and diesel), agricultural, and specialized equipment.
- Estimate time and materials and maintain accurate records.
- General computer-diagnostic tool use.
- Organize and prioritize work assignments and meet deadlines.
- Within 6‑month probationary period the Mechanic I must possess ASE certification Automobile/Light trucks for:
- A1
- Engine repair - A4
- Suspension and Steering - A5
- Brakes - A6
- Electrical/Electronic systems.
- Other relevant certifications.
- Use modern testing and diagnostic equipment, such as electronic and computerized equipment.
- Effectively operate all work-related equipment in a safe manner.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Work well independently as well as part of a team.
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with a diverse group of individuals, both internal and external to campus, while representing Facilities Services in a professional and courteous manner and represent Facilities Services and its programs to others in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to quickly and safely switch between projects as priorities require.
