onX is seeking an Android Engineer with a passion for trout fishing and technology. Your focus will be on the complete user journey throughout the Trout Routes app including onboarding, purchasing, and map interaction. We practice data-driven decision-making and emphasize experimentation. In this role, you will be a part of our Engineering team that works on the Trout Routes app.
This is a great opportunity to be a part of a dynamic growing company focused on making an impact on the business and the Trout Routes Android app. This role will serve as the Trout Routes Android Engineer at onX and will report to the Trout Routes Engineering Manager.
(Essential Job Duties)
- Develop new user-facing features in our Android app using Java and Kotlin
- Maintain 3rd party library integrations like marketing technologies and analytics engines.
- Write quality code, tests and review pull requests promptly
- Participate in the Android team architecture and code standard discussions
- Create ideas and solutions that pertain to your team’s quarterly mission
- Collaborate effectively with other team members
- Lead by example - embody our company values
- Learn how to use data analysis to identify opportunities for new experiments
onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub”.
- Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.
- Basecamps:
Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.- Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following:
Austin, TX;
Charlotte, NC;
Denver, CO;
Kalispell, MT;
Minneapolis, MN;
Portland, OR;
Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.

- Connection Hubs:
Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.- Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following:
Boise, ;
Charleston, SC;
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX;
Phoenix, AZ;
Richmond, VA;
Spokane, WA; and Vermont.
- Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, software engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional software development experience is required, where Android development in Java and Kotlin was your professional focus for at least two (2) or more years.
- A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.
- Understanding of best practices and architectural patterns such as MVVM.
- You have a strong computer science foundation
