onX is seeking a motivated Android Engineer with a passion for innovation and being on the leading edge of Android development. As an onX Android Engineer, you will join one of our vertical teams focused on feature development and maintenance of our Backcountry application which is aimed at enabling human‑powered adventures, e.g. backpacking, hiking, cross‑country skiing. This position will report to an Engineering Manager.

• Develop new user‑facing features in our Android app with Kotlin
• Write reusable code and libraries for future use
• Maintain an “offline first” application that must work with or without service
• Store data locally using a combination of SQLite, Shared Preferences, and disk caching
• Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
• Optimize application for maximum speed, scalability, and battery life
• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related field required.
• Minimum five (5) years of professional software development experience, including at least three (3) years focused on Android development (Kotlin and/or Java).
• Experience with an app released to the Google Play Store as an individual or team member.
• Strong CS fundamentals such as algorithms and data structures.
• Familiarity with Git/Git Hub.
• Experience with gRPC and/or REST.
• Experience with SQLite or other relational databases.
• Understanding of best practices and architectural patterns such as MVVM.
• Enjoy working with experienced developers and writing great code.
• Fun to work with and takes ownership.

• Previous experience in mobile app development; a published app is a plus.
• Advanced knowledge of data structures.
• Experience working with Kotlin.
• Experience with distributed team environments.
