Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Teaching Assistant (Challenging Behaviour)

Location:

Bracknell

Hours:

Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

Contract:

Full-time Role: 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Challenging Behaviour

We are looking for a warm, nurturing and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a large primary school in Bracknell, supporting a pupil with significant and challenging behaviours on a 1:1 basis. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping children who can struggle to engage with the classroom environment and who understands that building a trusting relationship is at the heart of successful behaviour support.

Ideal

Candidate
  • Extremely nurturing, patient and calm, even in difficult situations.
  • Confident supporting children who display challenging or extreme behaviours.
  • Highly skilled at building positive, trusting relationships with children.
  • Consistent and able to provide clear, predictable boundaries while remaining compassionate.
  • Resilient and emotionally regulated when faced with difficult behaviour.
  • Able to recognise triggers, understand behaviour as communication and respond appropriately.
  • Creative in finding ways to engage a child who may struggle with traditional classroom learning.
  • Comfortable working 1:1 and adapting activities around the individual child's needs.
  • Ideally experienced in primary schools, specialist settings, SEMH, behaviour support or similar environments.
The Role

You will work closely with the pupil throughout the school day, providing individualised support to help them:

  • Access learning and the wider curriculum.
  • Develop emotional regulation and positive coping strategies.
  • Build confidence, independence and social skills.
  • Develop positive relationships with staff and peers.
  • Manage and reduce challenging behaviours.
  • Participate successfully in school routines and activities.

The school places a strong emphasis on outdoor learning and Forest School activities, so the successful candidate should be enthusiastic about spending time outdoors and using practical, hands‑on activities to engage the pupil. You may be supporting the child both within the classroom and in alternative environments around the school, including outdoor and Forest School provision.

What we are looking for

Previous experience working with challenging behaviour is highly desirable. Experience supporting children with SEMH needs, autism, ADHD, complex needs or significant behavioural difficulties would also be beneficial. Most importantly, you will need to have the right personality and approach: someone who genuinely enjoys working with children, doesn't give up when things become difficult and understands the importance of patience, consistency and relationship‑building.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who wants to make a genuine, long‑term difference to a child's school experience and development.

Salary / Pay Rate

Salary / Pay Rate will be dependent on your skills and experience.
