About the RoleThe Collection System Operations Chief manages daily operations and maintenance of collection system facilities in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Key duties include scheduling staff, directing operations, budgeting, purchasing, completing required monthly operating reports, using Hach Wims & CMMS systems, developing capital budgets, executing capital projects, overseeing payroll, ensuring proper facility coverage, performing employee evaluations, maintaining accurate records, keeping an open relationship with customers, and mentoring operators.

This position offers daily challenges and learning opportunities as we maintain compliance and produce high‑quality water for local citizens. You’ll work outdoors protecting nature’s precious resources and will be an integral part of the team, supporting client communications, field and administrative duties, and hands‑on work with required reporting.
We seek an Operations Chief with a minimum Florida Class “B” collections certification (Florida Class “A” preferred). You’ll be involved in day‑to‑day operations, maintenance, and management.
Responsibilities- Operate, maintain, control, and perform routine repair of assigned equipment, including preventive maintenance duties.
- Utilize software programs for maintenance work orders and maintain all necessary records.
- Perform general maintenance duties of the collection system and vehicles.
- Manage, lead, and train subordinate operational and maintenance staff; advise on methods to improve efficiency.
- Review trends, records, and reports to maintain proper procedure and standards; collect and tabulate operational log data for regulatory agencies.
- Identify deviations or irregularities in operation; adjust plant processes and equipment to maintain required quality standards.
- Collaborate with maintenance staff on specific projects; adjust or bypass areas, processes, or equipment to ensure equipment integrity and safety.
- Test, monitor, record, evaluate, troubleshoot, and adjust operation of emergency generators and auxiliary equipment.
- Assist contractors and consultants with specific tasks.
- Assist in preparing standard operating procedures.
- Oversee collection system operations to remain in compliance with all federal, state, county, and city regulations and standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Work around electrical and mechanical equipment in dry and wet weather conditions.
- Assist federal, state, and local regulators during compliance inspections.
- Perform related work as required.
- Monday – Friday, 1st shift. Flexibility and extended shifts to meet seasonal demands. Reliable attendance is essential.
- Availability for standby duty and the ability to be “on‑call,” working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Response to emergency events and alarm callouts required as scheduled.
- High School Degree or Equivalent.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
- Valid State of Florida Class “B” Collections System license.
- Ability to make sound decisions in process control and follow instructions and safety procedures.
- Successful candidates will complete a background check, pre‑placement physical, and drug screen before employment.
- Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the water and wastewater industry with operations and management responsibilities.
