Planning and Zoning Technician to Senior DOQ - Agenda Division

Work Location: 9000 Town Center Parkway, Lakewood Ranch, FL
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Expected Starting Hourly Range: $19.51 - $31.95

These are technical and professional positions which perform work engaged in Planning and Zoning related functions for programs and/or projects within the Department. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, technical, planning and/or zoning assignments regarding Comprehensive Plan, Rezones, Developments of Regional Impact, Neighborhood Planning, and regulating the requirements in the Land Development Code.

• Monitors Section Email inquiries from General Public and Professional Developers and responds or distributes for responses.
• Answers front counter phones and routes to the appropriate person.
• Performs research utilizing departmental resources.
• Processes fee receipts and intake of land development applications.
• Prepares site plan files for routing and distribution.
• Conducts inspections of development site for installation of erosion and sediment control devices and general project compliance.
• Responds to citizen complaints.
• Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
• Responds to General Public and Development Professionals inquiries at front counter.
• Researches and prepares written zoning verifications for signature by Senior Technician.
• Reviews building permits for zoning compliance.
• Schedules pre-application conferences and maintains conference calendars.

• High school diploma or equivalent certification required for all technician levels.
• Florida Storm Water, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment if assigned to Code Enhancement.
• Minimum of one (1) year professional experience in planning, construction, zoning and land use regulation for Technician Level II.
• Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in planning, construction, zoning and land use regulation for Technician Level III.
• Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in planning, construction, zoning and land use regulation for Senior Technician.

• Written and verbal communication skills at all levels.
• Basic GIS knowledge for Technician Level I and intermediate GIS knowledge for Technician Level II; expert GIS knowledge for Technician Level III and Senior Technician.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF proficiency at Technician Level I; intermediate proficiency for Level II; expert proficiency for Level III and Senior Technician.
• Decision making, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills for Senior Technician.
• Valid Florida driver's license required within 30 days of hire.
