Join our team and make a difference in your community! Sun Coast Blood Centers is seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist to support our mission of providing safe, high-quality blood products and exceptional service to healthcare partners.

As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in the collection, processing, testing, and preparation of blood and blood products for transfusion and diagnostic purposes. You’ll ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, maintain safety and quality standards, and support both clinical and operational needs.

• Conduct pretransfusion testing (blood typing, cross-matching, antibody screening)
• Perform diagnostic and infectious disease marker testing using manual and automated methods
• Evaluate and interpret test results, reporting discrepancies promptly
• Prepare and label blood products for transfusion, ensuring proper storage and transport
• Process and test donor blood to produce safe and effective components
• Manage inventory and coordinate shipments to healthcare facilities
• Communicate with hospital staff to resolve urgent requests or discrepancies
• Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
• Maintain accurate records and utilize laboratory information systems (LIS)
• Train and mentor new staff, interns, and students
• Participate in departmental meetings and cross-functional collaborations
• Respond to emergency situations and remain available for on-call rotations

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with hands‑on blood banking experience
• Active Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist License in the appropriate specialty area(s)
• Valid Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record and reliable transportation
• Proficiency in manual and automated blood banking techniques
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work in high‑pressure situations and meet strict deadlines

• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs frequently
• Perform fine motor tasks and stand for extended periods
• Willingness to travel to off‑site locations and work rotating shifts/on‑call assignments
• Adherence to PPE requirements and laboratory safety protocols

• Adherence to Florida labor laws, HIPAA, and Sun Coast Blood Centers policies
• Successful completion of background check and drug testing
