The Certified Pharmacy Technician must be registered by the State of Florida and meet the minimum state requirements as indicated by Florida Statute 465.014. In addition, the pharmacy technician must be nationally certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, they assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department and any other duties as assigned.
GeneralResponsibilities
- Distributing stock supplies to patient care areas.
- Maintaining inventories of drug supplies in all automated dispensing machines.
- Retrieval of prescription files, patient files and profiles, and other similar records pertaining to the practice of pharmacy.
- Preparing sterile products using strict aseptic technique.
- Ensuring the clean room remains in a state of constant cleanliness and order and stocked appropriately.
- Performing environmental monitoring of the clean room.
- All functions related to prescription legend drug and controlled substance inventory control, documentation, and record keeping.
- Billing of medications not ordered through Pyxis (i.e., code cart medications).
- Non-sterile compounding.
- Entering data into the computer database for prepackaging.
- Comply with hospital confidentiality and privacy laws and rules.
- Prepare, package, and label drugs as permitted by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
- While under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, perform any other mechanical, technical, or administrative tasks which do not themselves constitute practice of pharmacy.
- Communication and interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and customer service skills required.
- High school graduate or equivalent PLUS State certification.
- Pharmacy technician program with certification; experience preferred.
- Experience preferred or will train if applicant is conscientious and communicates a desire to learn.
- Registered by State of Florida and certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board OR Current Pharmacy Intern License State of Florida.
