The Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation (FCS Foundation) provides 100% of donations towards essential non‑medical living expenses for adult cancer patients. As a Patient Support Volunteer, you will brighten patients' days by offering non‑medical support while they undergo treatment. Activities include giving snacks or beverages, distributing blankets, providing reading materials, talking & listening, wiping infusion chairs, and assisting nurses with restocking.
Responsibilities- Offer a snack or beverage to patients in the infusion area.
- Hand out warm blankets.
- Share reading materials.
- Provide conversation & listening support.
- Wipe down infusion chairs.
- Help nurses restock supplies.
- Minimum time commitment: 3 hours per week for at least six months.
- Ideal candidates: retirees, cancer survivors, caregivers, college students interested in oncology, nursing, or medicine.
- Complete a phone interview.
- Complete a criminal history check and drug/nicotine screening; positive tests disqualify participation.
- Complete a health screening:
Tuberculosis (TB) testing and immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella, or approved exemption. - Annual influenza vaccine required (August 1 through March 31).
