Solid Waste Superintendent

General Information
  • Work Location:

    3333 Lena Road, Bradenton, Florida 34210
  • Work Hours:

    Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; potential evening/weekend events
  • Expected Starting Annual Range: $65,118.41 - $84,653.94
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advice, training, and information to staff; plan, direct, supervise, and evaluate workflow of solid waste and scale house operations.
  • Monitor and give feedback on staff performance, attendance; conduct performance reviews.
  • Provide operational support; oversee budget preparation for solid waste division.
  • Consult and coordinate with third‑party contracted vendors for solid waste and recycling services.
  • Develop, implement, and administer departmental policies; analyze operations and programs, recommend policy changes for efficiency.
  • Prepare and analyze statistical data, prepare correspondence and documents.
  • Perform budget analysis and preparation, including project impact; process payments, bills, collections; manage fiscal information systems.
  • Review budgets, expenditures, and amendments; coordinate implementation.
  • Assist in training, design, and analysis of data processing systems; support automated system implementation.
  • Develop grant requirements with state/federal agencies and county staff.
  • Oversee work of other fiscal staff.
  • Perform other related work, including weather or emergency duties.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years operational support experience in solid waste and recycling programs.
  • Minimum of 2 years solid waste emergency operations and/or disaster recovery.
  • Minimum 3 years fiscal‑related experience.
  • Minimum 2 years lead or supervisory experience.
  • Valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Prior public sector fiscal or financial management experience highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of customer information and billing systems; understanding of policies, procedures, ordinances related to solid waste, emergency operations, and hazardous material handling; knowledge of Manatee County Government operations; accounting principles; analysis of county operations; contracting and procurement; grant coordination; research and statistical analysis; clear verbal and written communication; leadership and supervisory skills; relationship building; program implementation; planning, assignment, evaluation of staff;

travel as required; proficiency with computers.
