Job Overview

The Orthopedic Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner assists in providing seamless care to orthopedic surgical and nonsurgical patients by acting as a liaison between supervising physicians and other medical providers such as hospitalists and consultants as well as communicating and coordinating care with OR scheduling, patient support person and/or family members.

General Responsibilities
  • Completes ordered orthopedic consultations, ER and nursing unit, as requested for supervising physicians
  • Orders appropriate testing/imaging for patient evaluation and pre‑operative testing for surgical patients.
  • Contacts physician when consultation is complete.
  • Schedules operative cases after consulting with supervising physician.
  • Performs daily rounds on patients and orders appropriate testing including radiographs, labs, and urgent studies.
  • Communicates updates with attending MD/APP.
  • Enters post operative orders.
  • Performs appropriate bedside procedures such as aspirations, injections, and application of splints, braces, and casts, bedside incisions and drainage, as well as closed reductions.
  • Assists in surgical procedures as needed.
  • Always demonstrates Service Excellence standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree required. Doctoral degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. 5‑7 years specialized medical training.
  • Minimum of 3 years of orthopedic assistance preferred.
  • Must be board certified.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an active Florida Medical Licensure prior to start.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS at start date.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS at start date.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with many different surgeons who follow different protocols.
  • Must be self‑directed, organized and possess effective communication skills when communicating with physicians and hospital staff.
