FUNCTION:
Utilize a variety of effective, professional teaching techniques and methods that will assist students in attaining the performance objectives of the course. Instruct students in a classroom environment, on a skills course, and behind‑the‑wheel local driving using an approved curriculum.
- Instruct and train students on the following objectives:
Vehicle pre‑trip inspections, basic control skills (backing into specifically designed areas), uncoupling and coupling of the tractor/trailer, operating and instructing a commercial vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission (desired ability to operate with manual transmission) - Train students to safely operate a commercial vehicle on rural and city roadways
- Prepare and file student records about training activities, testing results, and performance evaluations
- Perform all other related duties as requested by the Lead Instructor and/or School Director
- Maintain ELDT compliance as well as compliance with all other State and Federal agencies
- At least three (3) years of commercial motor vehicle driving experience (preferred)
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Ability to pass a pre‑employment background and drug/alcohol test
- Must hold a Class A Commercial Driver’s License for at least 2 years, MVR (Lifetime), and DOT Medical Certificate
- Must meet FMCSA requirements
- Proficient in English sufficient to understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, make entries on reports and records, and converse with the public
- Knowledge of Commercial Driver License programs is not required but requested
- Knowledge of Microsoft computer programs
- Strong organization, time‑management skills, and ability to set priorities
- Ability to read and interpret statutes, policies, and procedures
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail
- Ability to build relationships with internal teams
- Passenger and School Bus endorsements are preferred but not required
- Required to stand on pavement for long periods, walk, sit, and climb
- Able to input, store, and output on computer keyboard and other office equipment
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more
- Hand‑eye coordination
- Exposed to very hot temperatures while working outside
- Ability to deal with sounds or noise levels that are distracting or unc
