Position: 14-16 Lecturer - Motor Vehicle

We are looking for a passionate Motor Vehicles Lecturer to join our dedicated 14‑16 Alternate Provision Department. The 14‑16 provision caters for approximately 200 young people who are accessing an alternative education programme, either as a referral from their current secondary school or as home‑educated children. Our learners come from a wide range of backgrounds and academic abilities, including those with EHCPs or undiagnosed additional learning needs, as well as social, emotional and behavioural issues.

This is a full‑time role of 35 hours per week. As part of the government‑targeted retention payment scheme, you may be eligible for a payment of up to £6000
, dependent on the subject/courses you teach.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses specified by the Departmental Leadership Team.
  • Participate actively in curriculum development and cross‑college marketing activities where appropriate.
  • Participate in the enrolment, induction, monitoring, profiling and initial assessment of students or trainees.
  • Devise individual learning plans and provide support for learners in line with the course requirements.
  • Report to the Head of Department for student discipline, counselling and guidance for all assigned classes.
  • Supervise and manage students on placements and offsite visits where appropriate.
  • Maintain records of formative and summative assessments to report accurately on progress of individuals and groups.
  • Pro‑actively contribute to the success and vision of the department.
  • Undertake programme leadership duties as specified by the line manager or Head of Department.
  • Contribute to course development and keep up to date with any industry or education reforms. Develop new programmes of study in an inclusive and collaborative approach.
  • Act as academic and pastoral tutor to assigned students.
  • Implement and promote college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in relevant Course Committee activities and ensure that the student voice informs curriculum design.
  • Participate in recruitment and marketing activities as specified by the line manager or Head of Department.

Education

& Training
  • Level 3 qualification or subject specialism in Motor Vehicles.
  • A relevant teaching qualification or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • GCSE 4–9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale.

Experience
  • Academic, industrial or commercial experience relevant to the programme.
  • Experience in good teaching/training.
