SEMH Teaching Assistant (1:1 SEMH Support) - September Start

Location: Bradford
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term (Potential Permanent Opportunity)

Milk Education are recruiting a resilient, confident, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a primary-aged child with high Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Bradford.

This is a rewarding yet challenging role supporting one child on a 1:1 basis
. The successful candidate will have excellent behaviour management skills
, remain calm under pressure, and be able to build positive, consistent relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
Team Teach training is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with high SEMH needs
  • Use strong behaviour management strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Implement de‑escalation techniques and positive behaviour support plans
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider pastoral team
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs
  • Foster a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
  • Record and report on progress, behaviour, and interventions
  • Support the pupil's social, emotional, and academic development
About You
  • Team Teach trained (essential)
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH and challenging behaviour
  • Confident in managing behaviours that challenge using a calm, consistent approach
  • Resilient, patient, and emotionally intelligent
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Available full-time from September
  • Experience in a school or specialist setting is highly desirable
