Team Description

The Land Drainage and Flood Risk Management Team plays a vital role in protecting communities, infrastructure and the environment across the Bradford District. Working as part of Planning, Transportation and Highways within the Growth Directorate, the team delivers the Council's responsibilities as the Lead Local Flood Authority and manages the Council's reservoir assets. Role

and Main Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Drainage Officer / Assistant Engineer (Reservoirs) to join our dedicated Land Drainage and Flood Risk Management Team. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to support the management of the Council's reservoirs, watercourses and drainage infrastructure, helping to protect communities from flooding and support sustainable development across the district. Working closely with the Flood Risk Manager and Senior Engineers, you will provide technical support on land drainage and flood risk matters, assist with reservoir inspections and maintenance programmes, support the delivery of flood risk management projects, and help ensure the Council meets its statutory duties as both a Reservoir Owner and Lead Local Flood Authority.

  • Support the Council in fulfilling its responsibilities as a Reservoir Owner and Lead Local Flood Authority.
  • Undertake inspections of reservoirs, watercourses and drainage assets, supporting maintenance programmes and contractor management activities.
  • Manage ordinary watercourse consenting and enforcement activities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation including the Land Drainage Act 1991.
  • Assist in the design of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and other flood risk management and drainage schemes.
  • Work collaboratively with local stakeholders, partner organisations and communities to deliver flood risk management initiatives and respond to drainage and flooding incidents.

We are looking for candidates with experience in flood risk management and land drainage matters, together with a Level 4 qualification (such as HNC, NVQ Level 4 or BTEC Higher) in Construction, Civil Engineering, Flood Risk Management or a related discipline. You should have knowledge of the Land Drainage Act 1991, Reservoirs Act 1975 and Flood and Water Management Act 2010, together with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
