Public Health and Water Quality Manager

Location: Buttershaw / Hybrid Working – 1–2 days in office a week (Bradford)

Work type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

What we do

Yorkshire Water provides essential water and wastewater services to over 5.4 million residents and visitors in the region. We protect the environment, safeguard public health, and ensure clean, safe drinking water is available 24/7, 365 days a year. With new environmental legislation, significant investment, and evolving customer expectations, we are keen to advance public health and water quality across Yorkshire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 11, including Public Health Scientists, Auditors, Data Scientists, and Technicians.
  • Provide expert technical advice on public health matters and support interpretation and implementation of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations.
  • Maintain daily liaison with DWI and health protection stakeholders to ensure timely discussion of potential public health issues and communicate regulatory reports.
  • Collaborate with operational colleagues to deliver up‑to‑date expertise on water quality issues and public health risks.
  • Play a key role in water quality incidents and emergencies, resolving high‑priority, complex problems and participating in a standby rota outside normal office hours.
  • Support a zero‑accident culture and consider health and safety at all times.
  • Develop audits and sampling programmes to meet regulatory requirements and provide assured quality data for annual and AMP‑based submissions.
  • Represent Yorkshire Water at Water

    UK national bodies and other industry groups, contributing to national public and water quality regulatory approaches.
What skills & qualifications you will need
  • Expert understanding of current drinking water regulation at local, national and European levels, plus knowledge of operational and quality issues affecting drinking water supply and water treatment/transmission processes.
  • Previous experience leading a technical function, driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets, and motivating a team.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a focus on continuous improvement with innovative ideas.
  • Experience delivering training and public speaking.
  • Experience with Health and Safety management processes and systems, including incident investigation, incident management and recovery.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence (required).
