Job Overview
The Senior Clinical Lead Nurse provides specialist knowledge and experience working with people with learning disabilities, mental health and challenging behaviours. The role supplies clinical leadership to the Learning Disability Najurally Centre assessment and treatment unit (ATU), delivering expertise on shift clinical risk, mental health assessment, formulation and care planning for admissions.
It involves recognising the importance of collaboration and effective teamwork in providing optimal patient care, forming positive relationships, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and actively contributing to care conferences, case discussions and meetings.

- Provide direct clinical care and act as a role model for nursing practice in the Najurally Centre and across the wider Integrated Care System (ICS).
- Support on‑shift, including out‑of‑hours, collaborating with the ward manager and ANPs to manage risk, safeguarding, patient safety and staff well‑being.
- Develop and implement risk plans, safeguarding procedures and clinical protocols, ensuring they are communicated clearly within the team.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary meetings, care conferences and case discussions, sharing insights and ensuring a holistic approach to patient care.
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team, providing mentorship, supervision and fostering professional development.
- Work as a member of the learning disability locality collective leadership team, responsible for safe and effective nursing practice across inpatient pathways.
- Serve as a point of contact for clinical leadership, offering expertise to other units and supporting the Trust’s goals for innovative, patient‑centred care.

- Current NMC Registration
- Degree qualification or equivalent
- Evidence of CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
- Mentorship sign‑off qualification or equivalent
- Relevant Teaching Qualification
- Clinical Supervision Qualification
- Modules supporting an Advanced Nurse Practitioner qualification in mental health
- Leadership qualification/training
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Nursing
- Advanced Nursing practice and/or specific modules relevant to area of practice
- Positive Behavioural Support training
- Experience clinically leading a team of staff, supporting development and working with an MDT
- Experience working with individuals with complex health needs and behaviours that challenge
- Experience managing and implementing risk plans, working independently and within a team
- Experience in safeguarding and demonstrating leadership in this area, including supervision of clinical staff
- Teaching, training and/or supervision of clinical staff
- Experience working in inpatient settings
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment
- Evidence of additional training in PBS, mental health, risk management, safeguarding and leadership
