An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic Qualified Speech and Language Therapist or Teacher of the Deaf to join our regional Cochlear Implant Service which is based at the purpose built Listening for Life Centre.

The role will encompass working as part of the MDT in the assessment and management of children being assessed and post Cochlear Implantation. The post holder will be responsible for providing assessment of communication and linguistic skills of babies and children with severe/profound hearing loss both pre and post cochlear implantation. The post will also involve therapy intervention for these patients.
The post would be suitable for someone with at least 2 years post qualification clinical experience. Support and training will be provided to gain experience and knowledge in the areas of childhood hearing impairment and cochlea implants.
The post holder will participate in the YAIS CI multi-disciplinary team and will be responsible for providing assessment of communication and linguistic skills of babies and children with severe/profound hearing loss both pre and post cochlear implantation. The post will also involve therapy intervention for these patients. It is a specialist role working within national and locally established policies, quality standards and codes of practice, both independently and as part of a team.

Person SpecificationEssential
- Experience of working as a Qualified Speech & Language Therapist/TOD
- Experience of working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
- Experience as a TOD or SLT working with hearing impaired paediatric clients
- Cochlear implant experience
- Experience of working with deaf/hearing impaired children from a range of backgrounds, who may have complex needs additional to their deafness
- Experience of research and/or service development
- Experience in the teaching/training of others
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written
- Excellent IT and presentation skills including Power Point
- Excellent organisational skills, including management and prioritisation of own workload
- Able to work as part of a team, and confidently with staff at all levels
Knowledge
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
- Evidence of ongoing training/CPD
Desirable
- Up to date knowledge relating to cochlear implantation
Qualifications
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy with Certificate to Practice recognised by the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists OR a degree with a Diploma in Education and Certificate in the Education of the Deaf
- HCPC Registration OR Registration with the British Association of Teachers of the Deaf

- Ability to travel between sites and attend home visits. A driving licence is preferred but reasonable adjustments will be made.
