Position: Group Coordinator (Reach)

LOCATION: CMHT / community-based across Bradford District

GRADE / SALARY: D1 £ 27,294.18 FTE per annum

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week

Purpose of the Job:

The Group Coordinator will lead and oversee the development, brokerage and facilitation of volunteering opportunities, peer support activities and groups for people who have severe and enduring mental health needs. The role will support individuals to rebuild confidence, develop meaningful social connections and take part in activities within their local community. The post holder will hold a small caseload.

Main Duties:

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver one-off taster sessions, short-term groups and peer support activities that are safe, inclusive and accessible.
  • Support people to identify their interests, strengths and goals, including exploring volunteering where this is appropriate and meaningful for them.
  • Work alongside colleagues, to help people access suitable volunteering opportunities and feel prepared to take part.
  • Use motivational and behaviour change approaches to help individuals recognise their strengths and develop achievable personal plans that support improved health, wellbeing and community involvement.
  • Provide practical support and encouragement to help people overcome barriers to joining groups, community activities or volunteering opportunities.
  • Work with internal and external services to identify suitable community-based provision, volunteering pathways and onward referral options where needed.
  • Develop effective partnerships with stakeholders to support access to community groups, peer support activities and appropriate volunteering opportunities.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure people receive co-ordinated, wraparound support that responds to multiple needs.
  • Use local and national health messaging materials to promote ongoing self-care.
  • Follow Cellar Trust policies and procedures, including safeguarding, data protection, confidentiality, equality and diversity.
  • Complete risk assessments for group sessions, volunteers and community-based activities, taking steps to reduce potential risks for participants, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Carry out other appropriate tasks as required to support the aims and objectives of the organisation.
Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Collect, collate and maintain referral, intervention and outcome data using relevant systems, including MyMUP and Excel.
  • Work with wider Reach colleagues to prepare reports and case studies to support monitoring and evaluation of the service.
Personal Development
  • Actively participate in supervision with the Reach team lead.
  • Contribute to internal team meetings and partner meetings as required.
  • Undertake mandatory and role-specific training, alongside other development opportunities, to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge.

Person Specification

Listed below are the knowledge, experience skills and values you’ll need to do this job, we will assess these through your application or through tests or interviews after shortlisting.

Knowledge
  • Good general education, with qualifications equivalent to 5 or more GCSEs, or significant equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of the role of peer support within mental health services
  • Understanding of the impact of stigma and discrimination in relation to mental health
  • Knowledge of local volunteering, community and peer support opportunities
  • Knowledge of adult safeguarding procedures
  • Understanding of MyMUP or similar systems
Method
  • At least 2 years' experience in a community development, group facilitation, health development, mental health setting or similar role
Experience
  • Experience of engaging and supporting people to improve health, wellbeing and recovery outcomes
  • Experience of planning, co-ordinating and facilitating community-based groups or activities and providing one-off taster sessions or training
  • Experience of supporting people to build confidence, develop social connections and take part in community activities
  • Experience of helping people identify strengths and interests, including supporting access to volunteering opportunities where appropriate
  • Experience of working with volunteers, peer supporters or community partners
  • Experience of supporting people with mental health difficulties, including severe and enduring mental health needs
  • Experience of delivering training or group sessions
