The goal of the job of an Employability Coach is to ensure that the people we support:
- Have the opportunity to develop relevant skills for employment
- Gain work experience in a real work setting and to support people with Learning Disabilities to find meaningful Employment within their own communities.
- Increase their independence
- Achieve their aspirations
- Are empowered to make decisions and choices around their future employment
- Are kept safe
- The post holder will liaise with local businesses, job centres, third sector organisations as well as the local authority and individual’s families to find and secure suitable employment.
The Employability Coach is a part of the Supported Employment team, supporting people with learning disabilities to develop and acquire relevant skills needed for the workplace, to gain work experience, with the ultimate goal of being supported to find long term paid employment.
The Employability Coach will provide support to people with learning disabilities. Supporting the individual to prepare for interviews or work trial.
Provide on the job training and support around task completion. Systematically breaking job roles down to meet the requirements of the employer/host company.
To enable individuals to undertake job roles independently, maximising their potential using graded support.
Work with the companies across the county to understand their policies and procedures. to learn about the core elements of working, to gain work experience and develop new skills.
Making adaptations and undertaking risk assessments based on the needs of the individual and the environment they are working in.
Ensure the individual is aware and abides of all health and safety policies and legislation within the host company.
Supporting individuals with a respectful and dignified manner
The ultimate purpose of the Employability Coach is to enable people with a learning disability to work towards securing a paid job. The post holder’s performance in the role is assessed using this purpose.
Responsibilities- Provide individualised support to people with a learning disability referred through to the team which includes job coaching, building natural supports, identifying job accommodations, utilising assistive technology, supporting employment search and selection processes etc
- Directly coach individuals as part of the job coaching plan, using Training in Systematic Instruction (TSI) methodology, to significantly increase job success capability so as to meet or exceed job expectations
- Carry out steps of the individual’s employment plan with the participant and other parties as appropriate
- Support participants to integrate into a job role by training them in all areas of support employability, such as travel training to the job site, communication with co-workers and managers, interview training, achieving standards of hygiene and grooming, successful workplace behaviours, and managing planned absence requests
- Identify and implement strategies to support the participant to complete employability tasks in the longer term not just in the host site but relevant to any follow-on employment and also support the participant to obtain the resources necessary to succeed in employment
- Practice positive reinforcement techniques with the participant, co-workers and other colleagues and help facilitate disability equality training
- Learn the business' culture and support the participant to integrate into that culture effectively
- Work with families/carers, job placement specialists, agency personnel, and other appropriate parties to problem solve issues relating to employability where necessary and support all parties to implement an effective solution
