We are looking for an experienced and motivated leader to join Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as an Assistant Director of HR:
Recruitment and Workforce Innovation on a 12-month fixed-term or secondment basis. A fantastic opportunity to develop strategically, lead high-performing teams and drive innovative workforce solutions.
As the Assistant Director, you will lead our Medical Workforce, Recruitment, Workforce Information and Apprenticeship services. You will provide strategic leadership and have overall responsibility for the delivery of a quality, comprehensive and customer focused professional HR service that is aligned to the strategic and operational needs of the Trust. This is a great opportunity to join the HR Leadership Team in a key strategic role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesTo provide strategic leadership and overall responsibility for the delivery of a quality, comprehensive and customer focused professional HR service that is aligned to the strategic and operational needs of the Foundation Trust. To support the organisation to be effective, fit for purpose and to achieve its strategic objectives.
To oversee the implementation of HR best practice. Lead on the operational delivery and implementation of assigned People Strategy Work Plans, providing responsive and supportive solutions to on-going transformation and innovation within the Foundation Trust. Work closely with Divisional leaders, to ensure that programmes of work enables the Trust to transform according to wider strategic plans, meet its objectives and deliver against targets.
Through the delivery of a professional HR Service, to ensure the Foundation Trust applies and maintains high standards of best HR practice that reflects changing employment legislation and trends, delivers operational and financial efficiency in order to develop a modern and healthy workplace for all employees.
Lead on the development, review and implementation of HR policies as appropriate, interpreting and researching employment law and national NHS policy ensuring that legislative changes are reflected into policy, practice and process. Providing guidance and training to Managers to ensure that HR policy and good employment practice is applied at all times and leading the strategic workforce plan for the Trust.
Personspecification Experience
- Proven significant previous experience of working in a senior human resources professional role in NHS organisations, or extensive equivalent experience in an equally diverse and complex organisation
- Demonstrable experience of working in a large, complex, unionised organisation, including having responsibility for recruitment and retention, reward, people management and policy development.
- Experience of leading and managing a team
- Experience of building personal and professional credibility with managers, employees, professional associations and external stakeholders and experience of influencing different stakeholders.
- Experience of workforce planning within a large complex and diverse organisation.
- Experience of dealing with Employment Tribunals and Early Conciliation claims including attending hearings
- Financial / budgetary management experience
- Highly developed and effective interpersonal and communication skills - both written and verbal.
- Computer literate with keyboard skills
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
- Extensive knowledge across the range of HR practices, policies and approaches to reward and recognition
- Working knowledge and understanding of employment legislation including the Tribunal system
- Knowledge of the Pay and Conditions for Medical and Dental Staff.
- Extensive specialist knowledge and understanding of NHS Agenda for Change and Medical Staff Terms and Conditions
- Knowledge of the current issues facing the NHS and delivery of care to patients and its impact on the HR agenda
- Chartered Member CIPD (Level 7 CIPD)
- Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate having attained experience of an equivalent level
- Evidence of continuing professional development
