Overview
Providing administrative and technical support to the team, you will be responsible for acquiring data from many types of digital devices, including mobile phones and computers. You will form part of the digital examination process and be a vital part to ongoing and non-recent serious criminal investigations. Reporting to a Senior Digital Forensic Investigator, you will handle a case load that requires managing multiple cases and exhibits s will include involvement in urgent, time sensitive, sometimes high profile cases.
Responsibilities- Acquire data from digital devices (including mobile phones and computers) as part of the digital examination process for investigations.
- Support ongoing and non-recent serious criminal investigations as part of the Digital Forensic Unit.
- Manage multiple cases and exhibits concurrently under the guidance of a Senior Digital Forensic Investigator.
- Engage in urgent, time-sensitive, and sometimes high-profile cases as required.
- Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last five years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused because it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.
- Shift information:
No Shift Allowance.
- The ideal candidate will have intermediate knowledge and expertise of common operating systems and applications and an aptitude for problem solving in a methodical and orderly manner.
- No previous Digital Forensic experience is required. You will be required to hold a relevant professional qualification in a computer-based subject or be able to demonstrate significant experience and expertise in a technical environment. A working understanding of the forensic examination of digital devices is desirable.
- Willingness and ability to travel for business purposes and flexibility to work to the department’s requirements.
- Physical and emotional resilience is required to deal with abusive and offensive imagery depicting extreme violence, obscenity and depravity, including graphic images of child abuse. The jobholder must be willing to undergo regular psychological assessment.

The Digital Forensic Unit has offices across the district (Calder Park Wakefield, Normanton Police Station, Huddersfield Police Station, Elland Road Leeds, Halifax Police Station, Trafalgar House Bradford).
To support the investigation of serious crime, West Yorkshire Police is looking to appoint 1 Digital Forensic Technician for its Digital Forensics Unit. This is an ideal role as a first position for someone who has no previous experience of working in digital forensics but would like to start a career in this area.
