Do you believe in the transformative power of education?

Join our mission to inspire and empower young people, making a lasting impact on their lives.

At Pivot we believe learners deserve better. We are a specialist independent provision with sites in Kirklees, Wakefield, Bradford and Leeds. In our academies we teach and support learners from Key Stages 1 – 5 who have been excluded from school or those with an EHCP who require a specialist placement. Every day our teams do incredible work, making a huge difference to the lives of complex and challenging learners.

We are currently seeking a practical, proactive, reliable and skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our Kirklees provision, primarily supporting the opening and ongoing operation of our new school site in Bradford.

This is a varied, hands‑on role where you will be responsible for ensuring the school buildings, facilities and grounds remain safe, secure and well‑maintained for our learners, staff and visitors. Working closely with the Head of Estates & Facilities, you will carry out routine maintenance tasks, respond to repairs, support health and safety compliance, and help create an environment where young people can thrive.

What you’ll be doing
  • Carry out day‑to‑day maintenance, repairs and reactive works across the school site.
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings, facilities and safety equipment to ensure everything is operating effectively and safely.
  • Undertake basic maintenance work on electrical systems, heating, hot water systems and general building fabric.
  • Assist with fire safety checks, security systems and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate and support external contractors, ensuring work is completed to the required standards.
  • Keep accurate maintenance and inspection records.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to urgent maintenance issues and emergencies.
  • Support the setup, development and ongoing maintenance of new school facilities.
  • Work with colleagues and external health and safety providers to maintain compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Carry out and support testing of electrical equipment and other safety devices, including PAT testing where required.
What we’re looking for

The ideal candidate will have experience in maintenance, building repairs or a skilled trade and be confident working independently across a range of tasks. You will have a strong understanding of health and safety, excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to prioritise workload in a busy school environment. A flexible approach, good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with staff, contractors and visitors are essential.

We

offer
  • 8.2 weeks (41 days) paid annual leave each year
  • A supportive and forward‑thinking school culture
  • Ongoing professional development and support for relevant qualifications
  • Focus on wellbeing for all & access to employee assistance programmes
  • Flexible working arrangements and early finish Fridays
  • Further additional benefits, including blue light card entitlement, eye‑test reimbursement, financial wellbeing service, work mobile phone and death in service benefit

We do encourage you to submit your application form as soon as possible as we reserve the right to change the closing date for a vacancy.

We are committed to safeguarding our young people and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service check and appropriate referencing.

During the shortlisting process, Pivot will carry out an online search on shortlisted candidates as part of its due diligence.
