Lead the re‑imagining of the Acute Oncology Service at Bradford Teaching Hospitals, including upskilling the existing workforce, establishing a new service model and workforce structure, and overseeing service transition as the Trust moves away from an oncology inpatient bed base in line with the Non Surgical Oncology (NSO) program.

Main duties of the job

Lead nursing and other non‑medical practice across the Acute Oncology Service. Work with Matrons, Lead Cancer Nurse's (LCN) and clinical educators, supporting on educational development for nursing and the multi‑professional workforce across the Acute Oncology Service.

  • Where necessary in the absence of Matron or Deputy Nurse Director, provide operational support within the Oncology Service.
  • Provide leadership advice and support on clinical governance issues, including clinical and non‑clinical risk assessment and management.

Person specification Experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in acute oncology at an advanced level at a minimum of an 8a or above
  • Successful completion of core and relevant specialist competencies including SACT competencies.
  • Substantial leadership experience including direct line management at a minimum of band 7 level
  • Evidence of service improvement.
  • Evidence of named participation in published research, audit and service evaluation.
  • Evidence of practice development and teaching experience
  • Experience of writing business cases
  • Familiarity with SACT prescribing.
  • Evidence of delivery of education at local, regional and national level.
Skills
  • Ability to work strategically with advanced decision‑making skills to autonomously deal with a complex workload.
  • Understanding of the Acute Oncology Service within the wider Non‑Surgical Oncology Program
  • Evidence of applying national policy locally and involvement in strategic initiatives.
  • Ability to deal with complex and challenging emotional and potentially sensitive ethically sensitive situations
  • Emotionally resilient ability with conflict
  • Ability to articulate effectively with advanced written and verbal communication skills and ability to present at local and national level. Clear, concise written and verbal reporting skills.
Knowledge
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting, benchmarking and audit alongside a working knowledge of clinical governance and its implications.
  • Knowledge of current issues effecting the provision of oncology care locally and nationally.
  • Understanding of cultural differences and health belief models including diversity in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of the commissioning processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the use of relevant patient information systems and data collection systems.
Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse
  • Recognised Management / leadership qualification or programme
  • ENB 659 or equivalent – SLIP, 998
  • Evidence of current CPD
  • Non‑Medical Prescriber Qualification (NMP)
  • Post registration qualification / education relevant to Acute Oncology
