Senior Package Manager – Secondary Steel Work (SSW)

Sizewell C Project, Suffolk Coast
Laing O'Rourke and the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) are recruiting a Senior Package Manager (SPM) to lead the delivery of Secondary Steel Work (SSW) across one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure programmes. This is a critical leadership role overseeing the Tier 1 supply and installation partner responsible for off‑site fabrication and on‑site delivery across the Nuclear Island, CIBOP and Heat Sink at Sizewell
C.
The successful candidate will play a defining role in ensuring right‑first‑time manufacturing, seamless integration between design, fabrication and construction, and the timely delivery of high‑quality components aligned to the main civil works programme.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the primary interface with Engineering & Technical teams, leading coordination across design, manufacturing and construction
- Manage the full SSW package suite across Tier 1 supply and install packages
- Oversee design development through to fabrication drawings and manufacturing readiness
- Ensure all components are designed, manufactured, inspected, documented and delivered in line with SZC specifications, EDRs, IDSs and nuclear safety standards
- Drive effective communication with Tier 1 partners and internal CWA teams to maintain programme alignment
- Lead technical coordination across disciplines to avoid rework and late design changes
- Manage and control RFI's, NCR's and FCR's, maintaining strict configuration control
- Review and approve manufacturing drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Ensure compliance with nuclear‑grade quality processes, including welding, NDT and material traceability
- Support development of manufacturing and installation documentation (method statements, ITPs, risk assessments)
- Identify risks and opportunities throughout the manufacturing lifecycle and implement mitigation strategies
- Align factory output with site installation demand, maximising early installation and modularisation opportunities
- Lead stakeholder engagement across building teams and wider project areas to optimise delivery schedules
- Support and mentor junior engineers, fostering a high‑performance team culture
- Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)
- Extensive experience in off‑site fabrication of complex secondary steel
- Strong understanding of nuclear infrastructure and associated quality and compliance standards
- Proven track record managing Tier 1 suppliers and manufacturing performance
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and interface data
- Experience with in regulated environments with configuration control and technical governance
- Strong commercial awareness, including procurement and contract management (NEC desirable)
- Demonstrated ownership, problem‑solving capability and clear communication style
- Experience delivering large‑scale infrastructure or construction projects
- Commitment to health, safety and collaborative working practices
- Experience on Hinkley Point C or similar nuclear new build projects
- Knowledge of high‑volume manufacturing techniques and digital reporting
- Experience setting KPIs and managing supplier performance frameworks
