Ocean Import Operator – Freight Forwarding

Location:
Bradford (Office-based)

Salary: £32,000 – £36,000 Depending on experience

We are partnering with a rapidly growing international freight forwarding organisation that is expanding its commercial and operational teams as part of a long-term growth strategy. Due to continued success and increased volumes, they are looking to hire an experienced Ocean Import Operator to join their busy Air & Ocean department.

The Role

As an Ocean Import Operator, you will play a key role in managing end-to-end ocean import shipments, working closely with customers, overseas agents, carriers and internal teams. You’ll be responsible for ensuring shipments are handled accurately and efficiently, from booking through to customs clearance and invoicing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate daily with customers and overseas agents regarding shipments
  • Receive and process import bookings
  • Create and manage job files within the internal system
  • Prepare customs clearance instructions and calculate duty/VAT
  • Liaise with carriers, hauliers and customers to manage shipment progress
  • Monitor vessel arrivals and update stakeholders accordingly
  • Maintain customer‑specific documentation and tracking spreadsheets
  • Ensure all documentation is correct and compliant
  • Raise invoices and duty/VAT charges
  • Resolve file queries and operational issues
About You
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in freight forwarding (ocean imports preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable working to deadlines and under pressure
  • Organised, proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
