As a home care registered nurse (RN), you will ensure hospice patients are comfortable and forge compassionate, meaningful connections with the people in their lives. This is important work that comes with responsibility. Patients and families trust VITAS nurses to guide them through the end-of-life journey, and maintaining that trust is our highest priority.
You will be a respected member of our team, both as a caregiver and as a hospice educator. You will have the autonomy to make care decisions at the bedside, ensuring comfort for your patients. You will help patients and their loved ones understand and embrace the palliative nature of hospice and the benefits of comfort-focused end-of-life care.
Where You’ll WorkYou will spend most of your time caring for hospice patients wherever they call home, such as private residences or assisted living/skilled nursing facilities. Most VITAS nurses make 4-6 visits each day. Once a week, you’ll meet with an interdisciplinary team at the local program office to collaborate on patient and family support.
What’s Expected From YouYou should have your RN license, at least two years of nursing experience, and reliable transportation. Traits such as Commitment, Compassion, and a Can-do Attitude are essential. Your focus should be on the welfare of patients, providing the best care each day to extend comfort and dignity at the end of life.
